The Duke of Sussex is in court tomorrow for a three-day legal battle with the Home Office over security arrangements for his family.
The 39-year-old California-based royal is set to challenge the February 2020 decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC), which ruled that he and his family would not receive the “same degree” of security when travelling to the UK as other royals.
The RAVEC decision came following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down from royal duties and pursue their lives in the United States.
Harry won the right to partially challenge the High Court’s ruling not to give him automatic police protection last July. His lawyers successfully argued the decision was invalid due to “procedural unfairness”.
With the latest legal instalment due to commence tomorrow, a privacy order has been issued over fears that a large amount of evidence must not enter the public doman meaning most of the three-day hearing will be heard in private.
Mr Justice Lane said that it was clear that “the material that needs to be protected in the interests of justice is very tightly entangled with less sensitive details required for the court to properly determine the claim.”
He added: “This means that the bulk of the hearing must be in private.”
This comes following the latest bombshell revelations from Omid Scobie’s new book Endgame. The book sparked controversy after the Dutch version of the text alleged the identity of the member of the family who questioned the colour of Harry and Meghan’s son Archie.
The Sussex duo first brought the claim about racism to light in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
The Dutch edition was hastily removed from the shelves but Piers Morgan proceeded to announce the names live on-air, prompting other outlets to follow suit. The Daily Express has chosen not to name the individuals.
Despite the storm around the latest royal tell-all, written by an author known to be close to Harry and Meghan, the Firm is expected to step out unflustered at the Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday evening.
