Princess Anne sparks fan frenzy as she and Sir Timothy Laurence announce Canadian tour

Princess Anne has sparked a fan frenzy as she and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, have announced a three-day British Columbia tour.

The royal couple’s visit to Canada will include the commissioning ceremony for the HMCS Max Bernays followed by an overnight sail to Esquimalt on Vancouver Island.

Their itinerary for the short visit also includes a visit to the archives and collections space of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in Victoria, which was founded with an initial donation by the late Prince Philip.

Anne, 73, is often deemed the hardest-working royal, with this visit marking her third overseas trip of 2024 so far.

The princess royal, who has proved popular amongst royal fans in recent years, has received hight praise after the tour was unveiled.

Taking to X, one fan commented: “Princess Anne is coming to Canada in early May. Soooo happy. She will be in the British Columbia [red-heart emoji]”.

Another fan wrote: “She’s a rock star in my eyes!”

A third fan commented: “That’s wonderful. Such a great couple and she is so wonderful.”

One fan, likely based in British Columbia, wrote: “We are always so happy to see Princess Anne visiting Canada! So great that Sir Tim Laurence is coming also! They will get a great welcome from the Canadian Navy and it will be a well earned honour to have her made an Honorary commodore of the RCN! Looking forward to it!”

Discussing their excitement for the couple, another fan said: “Wonderful to see the Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence being honoured in such a way.

“They are both such hard-working people who show their amazing love for [the] King, [their] family and country.”

In a slight dig at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, another commented: “And no doubt will travel on a scheduled flight, carrying her own hand luggage. No fuss and private jets for them!”

Princess Anne last visited Canada last year – with a visit taking place not once, but twice in the space of one month.

Ahead of this week’s visit, a statement from the office of the lieutenant-governor said that the trip will also feature a visit to the Military Family Resource Centre where Anne will meet with service members and their families.

Alongside her husband, Anne is also scheduled to attend a commemorative service marking the Battle of the Atlantic at the British Columbia Legislature and will lay a wreath.
