Meghan Markle to use new project to 'redefine her identity' and reclaim Hollywood role

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were confirmed earlier this month to have acquired the rights to adapt the hit novel Meet Me at the Lake for the screen.

The project marks a significant step away from their earlier production attempts for the streaming giant Netflix and could seal the complete departure from their royally-inspired blueprint.

And entertainment expert Mark Boardman argued the adaptation could help the Duchess of Sussex show off her experience in Hollywood.

Boardman said: “The reported acquisition of film rights suggests that while both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are involved, this project could particularly shine a spotlight on Meghan’s Hollywood career.

“Given her background in acting and her prior familiarity with the entertainment industry, the adaptation could provide her a platform to demonstrate her talents and redefine her identity in this new context.”

He added: “I believe this project has the potential to be a pivotal move for Harry and Meghan.

“Its proven success alone with readers, combined with its thematic resonance with the couple’s own lives, offers an enticing opportunity to craft a unique and compelling narrative.

“As the couple navigates this project, they might discover new avenues to share their perspectives and grow within the entertainment industry.”

While Harry and Meghan have not commented on the project yet, author Carley Fortune said she was excited by the prospect of working with the couple.

She said: “I’m so thrilled about working with Netflix and Archewell to bring Meet Me at the Lake to the screen.

“Will and Fern’s [main characters] love story is dear to my heart, and I can’t imagine a more perfect partnership.”
