An unlikely royal has topped the polls once again as the UK’s most popular member of The Firm. YouGov recently published its list of the country’s favourite public figures – and a royal member who you wouldn’t be able to guess is sat safely at the summit.
Of the top five favourites, a whopping four turned out to be Royal Family members – while the other was a famous American politician. Nevertheless, a few people might not have been surprised to see Queen Elizabeth II is still the UK’s favourite person during 2023.
Eight out of ten people have a positive opinion of the late Queen, who many say brought a huge sense of stability to the UK following the destructive Second World War. Elizabeth finally died in 2022 after 70 years at the helm – causing absolute meltdown in the country as people stopped working to mourn her.
Coming in at number two for the most popular royal is Kate, Princess of Wales. William’s wife has eclipsed him in the rankings because of her effortless charm and devotion to various charitable causes. Many of her efforts go towards supporting disadvantaged children – she even made her children go to the effort of picking out a few board games for families who couldn’t afford a single present for Christmas.
Princess Kate’s husband was a close contender, following her in third place. The future king was thought of positively by 69 percent of those surveyed. Wills has remained popular, despite the highly-publicised falling out he’s had with brother Harry, who stayed away from a royal Christmas at Sandringham, in Norfolk.
Princess Anne, who was arguably the Queen’s favourite child and widely seen as the “hardest working” royal, pulls in at number four. She was liked by 64 percent of respondents, with many fondly remembering her featuring at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
Zara Tindall, the Queen’s granddaughter and Anne’s daughter, follows her in fifth. Tindall was also an equestrian Olympian, and she won a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics.
In the top 5 most popular people in general for the UK, former USA President Barack Obama also made an appearance. Obama is now involved in film production and also comments regularly on politics.
