Six Nations LIVE: RFU considered selling Twickenham as Ireland suffer huge injury blow

The RFU reportedly considered selling Twickenham and buying 50 per cent of Wembley Stadium as part of plans to develop England’s home stadium.

According to The Times, a 69-page document has been linked which outlines major plans to redevelop Twickenham over the six years, though the RFU have conceded that they cannot afford the wholesale changes at this time.

Numerous options were discussed by the body, including the ‘leave’ route which would have seen the FA approached about sharing Wembley and selling Twickenham.

The document read: “This was based on a board-approved recommendation (March 2023) to retain the Leave option as a reserve but defer formal engagement with the FA and financial investment until further feasibility clarity is obtained with the Stay option and licensing authority views.”
