Queen Camilla ‘has brought a much-needed human touch to the monarchy’ says royal historian

Queen Camila brings a realness to the Royal Family, says one royal expert.

King Charles had his whole life to prepare for the role of monarch, growing up the heir, but for Queen Camilla, she married into the Royal Family, and didn’t have as much time to get ready, but even so, she seems to have what it takes and then some.

Daily Express US spoke exclusively to royal historian and commentator Rafe Heydel-Mankoo who says: “We can all be gratified that Camilla has turned out to be the perfect consort for His Majesty.”

He adds: “She is very much the strength and stay, and she understands fully the responsibilities and duties of a queen consort.”

“I think she has proven to fulfill those as well as any figure from history. Anyone who meets her is immediately captivated by her charm and her down-to-earth nature.”

Camilla has been working diligently the past few weeks, carrying out royal engagement after royal engagement. By no means is she rushing through them, each one is given her full attention, but it is clear how much time and energy she is dedicating to her duties.

Mr Heydel-Mankoo talks about Camilla stepping up to the plate in the wake of her husband’s cancer diagnosis: “I think she has proven to fulfill those as well as any figure from history. Anyone who meets her is immediately captivated by her charm and her down-to-earth nature.”

The royal historian says: “She’s clearly somebody who much prefers to be in her Wellington boots out in the field somewhere having a smoke. And, I think people can relate to that, people don’t feel intimated around her, she has a wonderful ability to connect with people and a great sense of humor.”

Camilla grew up on a large country estate in Plompton, Sussex, with her parents and two younger brothers, which may account for her being easy going and personable.

Camilla and Charles first crossed paths in 1970 and finally married in 2005.

While it took a while for them to get there, Heydel-Mankoo says it was worth the wait: “I think she’s brought a much-needed human touch to the monarchy, which can only be a good thing.”

It’s not just the monarchy, she is civic-minded: “And she’s shown interest in so many vitally important causes, be it literacy, sexual abuse of women and battered wives and so forth, she’s brought monarchy into areas where you would not have normally expected the monarchy to go.

“Again, another example of how the monarchy is evolving, it’s going into subjects and areas, that previously, it strenuously avoided.”
