Public services are hitting rock bottom, according to public


More than three quarters of us think public services such as education, transport and the NHS have got worse in the past five years.

The new figure of 78% compares to 63% who said the same in March 2017 and just 40% back in November 2012, says the Ipsos Political Monitor poll.

It shows 70% of Conservative voters agree that public services have nose-dived since 2018.

Expectations are pessimistic – with 64% of us believing the NHS will worsen in the years ahead. That is up 18% since 2020.
More than half of us expect young people’s opportunities to fall and 47% are pessimistic about the quality of
the environment and 44% bemoan the education system.

Overall, 75% of the nation disagree that in the long term the Tory government’s policies will improve public services.

But 50% agree that Labour would improve public services.

Two thirds of Britons oppose cutting spending to reduce taxes and 64% oppose cutting spending to reduce borrowing.
