Prince William to build 24 new homes on Duchy of Cornwall land to fight homelessness

It is understood that the new homes will be low-carbon and have slate roofs, granite lintels, solar panels and heat pumps and the royal has made it known he wants to encourage biodiversity by adding shrubs and re-landscaping the area.

They will be developed in a “traditional Cornish seaside” as William wants the development to “look and feel as homely as possible” and blend in.

The development in Nansledan – the seaside town famous for its surfing – is part of – the Duchy of Cornwall – its 130,000-acre property empire covers Cornwall to Kent.

In 2022-23, the dutchy – which provides William with an income – saw profits of £24 million.

The heir to the throne offered the profit to cover all construction costs for the project and will supply the land free of charge.

Investment will also be made in local infrastructure, including electricity, water and superfast broadband along with a bus link.

Under the proposals, a total of 200 extra affordable homes are expected to be built in Nansledan, where there are currently 1,020 properties.

Last year, the Prince of Wales pledged to tackle the growing problem of homelessness by launching six pilot projects.

William’s vision is to make rough sleeping, sofa surfing and temporary digs a thing of the past.
