Meghan Markle’s style seems to mirror the late Queen Elizabeth’s in one key way, which was especially obvious when she joined Prince Harry in Canada last week.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to Whistler to count down one year to go until the Invictus Game 2025, which will be held in Whistler and Vancouver.
While Harry tried out many of the new winter sports that will be on offer next year, Meghan happily looked on and took pictures to show their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The couple wrapped up warm in some cosy clothes, with eagle-eyed royal fashion fans noticing that Meghan’s use of block colour was very similar to the late Queen’s.
The Duchess wore head-to-toe blacks and neutral tones, whereas the Queen too used to wear outfits of one single colour when out on royal duty.
However, the Queen tended to wear bright colours such as green, pink and orange, while Meghan prefers to stick to blacks, white and browns. Neither of them tended to mix colours or wear prints.
Royal style expert Miranda Holder explained why the Duchess opts for such a colour palette, and apparently it is to do with how she wants to be perceived.
She told Express.co.uk: “Despite Meghan famously announcing in her Netflix documentary that she only wore neutrals during her time as a royal as a bid to blend in, the Duchess has somewhat surprisingly remained faithful to a sartorially safer colour palette of beiges, creams, blacks and whites in recent months.
“It’s a little unexpected, as following her statement, I think we all expected the Duchess to be stepping out in a rainbow of vivid hues and making the most of her newfound freedom on the wardrobe front, but it’s quite the opposite.
“These tones definitely suit Meghan, but she looks great in the brights too, as she has proven on numerous previous occasions, so why is she staying in her sartorial safe zone?
“Personally, I think it indicates a very relatable conflict of emotions with Meghan’s current predicament. On one hand, she yearns to be back in the spotlight, adored by the public and forging ahead with exciting new projects and on the other, behind that radiant smile, she is understandably very frightened about just how she will be received, not only by the public, but more crucially by the world’s media.”
On her final outing during the Canada trip in Vancouver Meghan showcased her expensive taste in clothes as she wore a £1,000 camel cape and some gloves worth £260.
Back in October last year the Duchess wore over £17,000 worth of clothes as she attended two events in New York with Harry to mark World Mental Health Day.
At Marcy Lab school she wore wore a jacket given to her by students on the debate team at the Robert Clack School in London, which she teamed with black skinny jeans and Cartier jewellery.
Later in the day her ivory Altuzzara suit, worn at a panel to raise awareness about the dangers of cyberbullying, turned heads sporting a price tag of over £1600.
