Gushing royal fans distracted by 'hot guy' leading Charles and Camilla's procession

A dashing Army officer has caught the attention of several members of the public as he played a prominent role in the Coronation. One of the millions of people who tuned in on Saturday to watch the historic event shared on Twitter a picture of his television to ask fellow social media users if they knew who “the hot guy” walking in front of the King yet to be crowned was.

The snap shared by Twitter user @lewispringle was taken as Queen Camilla, King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales were proceeding through the nave of Westminster Abbey ahead of the beginning of the service.

The officer pointed out by the social media user walked as part of the Queen’s procession.

He followed her pages of honour – Camilla’s grandsons Freddy Parker Bowles, Gus Lopes, Louis Lopes and her great nephew Arthur Elliot, as well as Her Majesty’s sister Annabel and the Marchioness of Landsdowne.

The order of service names one British Army officer as part of the Queen’s procession, Major Oliver Plunket, who appears to be the man pointed out by the Twitter user.

The tweet went viral, attracting almost 2,000 likes and more than 240,000 views.

Replying to the original tweet, @explorer_80 agreed, saying: “He’s very cute.”

@HectorLCoronado also said: “I noticed him too during the Coronation. I think that’s Major Oliver Plunket, The Groom of the Robes, according to the Coronation programme.”

Another, @Clare290, noted this isn’t the first time the officer was spotted at a major royal event.

They said: “He also featured prominently during the late Queen’s funeral. Very impressive and obviously very well respected by the royals.”

Major Plunket became Camilla’s new equerry last year, and attracted quite a following also in December, when he attended the Princess of Wales’s carol service at Westminster Abbey – Together at Christmas.

In his teens, the officer reportedly embarked on a solo motorbike ride from Argentina to Alaska and raised thousands for wounded servicemen.

Another officer caught the eye of Coronation viewers on Saturday – Major Jonathan Thompson.

The 39-year-old is an equerry to the King and, after following Charles in the procession through the nave, he stood beside the newly-crowned monarch and his pages.

He has taken part in several key events over the past few months, including the late Queen’s funeral and the Commonwealth Day service, and was among those who welcomed Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky during his trip to the UK back in February.

Referring to Major Thompson, Twitter user @Markkipper wrote: “The guy behind Charles is also worth looking at!”

@tracyjenx added: “King Charles III’s equerry is rather dashing”.

Another, @JaneCharsley, added: “Gosh Jonny and now Oliver… How can we cope?!”
