Duchess Sophie reportedly had a “heart to heart” with Meghan Markle but was left furious after the Duchess of Sussex snubbed her.
According to a source, the pair initially “talked for hours” and that Meghan “had so many questions” for Sophie.
However, Meghan failed to get in touch with Sophie following their conversation, leaving Sophie “surprised”.
Speaking about the incident, a source said: “It was just the two of them and they talked for hours.
“Meghan had so many questions and Sophie, who knows what it’s like navigating your way through the early days of transition from a commoner to a royal, gave freely of her advice.”
Speaking to The Sun, the source added that Sophie initially really liked Meghan.
The source said: “Sophie found Meghan likeable and engaging and told her that she could call her any time when she needed advice about dealing with some of the trickier royals.
“She was quite surprised when that was the last she heard from Meghan.”
The source added: “As she noted, it would’ve been nice to receive a return invitation to Frogmore Cottage (where Meghan was then living with Harry and is less than half an hour from Bagshot).”
Mr Scobie, who has been deemed as Meghan’s “mouthpiece”, reportedly made a comment about Sophie being “casually bigoted”.
The comment is supposedly in relation to Sophie’s comment about Oprah Winfrey – shortly after her interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2021.
The author, who released his book Endgame back in November, claimed Sophie said during an interview with The Telegraph: “You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she (Oprah) is. Certainly not in this country, anyway.”
A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh later claimed that Sophie’s comment was joke, but Mr Scobie said the comment shouldn’t have been made.
Regarding the alleged comment, Mr Scobie said: “Whether it was a ‘joke’ (as a source close to Edward and Sophie later claimed it was) or not, the comments about the world’s most successful black woman and one of the biggest faces in entertainment made them seem stuffy or tin-eared at best, and casually bigoted at worst.”
Meghan and Sophie were last reunited in September 2022 – at the late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the funeral together, with this also being Meghan’s last time in the UK.
