Coronation LIVE: Kate to ditch tiara in tradition break–late Queen's dresser 'loses power'

The Princess of Wales has been tipped to break royal tradition for King Charles’s Coronation next weekend with Kate opting to ditch the tiara for a different item of headwear. With just under a week to go until the once-in-a-lifetime event, Kate and other senior members of the Firm have been engaged in a race against time to finalise their fittings for the momentous occasion.

In a break from tradition, Kate could opt to wear a flower crown in place of an ornate tiara which could be a reflection of the King’s love of nature and the environment as seen on the official invitations to the Coronation.

Sally Bedell Smith, a biographer on the Royal Family, told the Times: “The sight of the Princess of Wales in a floral crown will set a particular tone, showing the King’s reverence for nature and his passion for flowers.

“It seems like an especially egalitarian touch as well. As the wife of the future king, she will be setting an example for the other women in the congregation, who might find it awkward to even think of wearing tiaras.”

The reports come as the late Queen’s right-hand lady, Angela Kelly, was revealed to have “lost power and influence” after the late monarch died.

A former Palace steward told the Daily Mail: “She had thrown her weight around in the past and now she no longer had the protection of the Queen.”
