'Beloved little boy' dies in horrific fire as Dad fights for his life in seaside suburb

A little boy has died and his dad is fighting to stay alive after a fire ravaged their family home in Swansea yesterday. Emergency services were called to a property in Gonhill in West Cross around 1:20pm yesterday where a blistering blaze had erupted.

Neighbours said the fire is “every parents’ worst nightmare” as the child was trapped in the house.

Although the child has not yet been named, the MailOnline has reported that locals in the area said he had just started school and was aged four or five.

Ambulances took three people to Morriston Hospital, including the dad who remains in a “serious condition” with undisclosed injuries.

The deceased boy’s mum and sister are also receiving medical attention for smoke inhalation due to the fierce fire.

Police and fire services have commenced a joint investigation into how the blaze ignited, which was contained to the solitary property.

Video taken in the wake of the inferno showed how fire fighters and officers assessed the scene.

The home suffered at least one broken window and appeared to sustain damage to its interior, however the extent of the devastation to the property remains unclear.

According to MailOnline, family friend Claire Mitchell said the household “lost everything they held dear when the devastating fire engulfed their home”.

She said: “The flames claimed not only their possessions but also tragically took the life of their beloved little boy.

“The father is currently battling for his life in the hospital.”

A GoFundMe page set up to support the family: “In times like these, it is our duty as a community to come together and support those who have faced unimaginable losses. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in their lives.”

The fundraiser has generated more £8,000 since the deadly blaze took hold yesterday.

Local councillor Rebecca Fogarty said that losing a child was everybody’s worst nightmare and that her heart goes out to the family.

She thanked the emergency services and the local community who have “already rallied round”.

South Wales Police’s Detective Inspector Carl Price, said yesterday: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the child who has tragically died at a house fire in West Cross, Swansea.

“Of the three others who were in the house at the time, one child and a woman suffered smoke inhalation, and one man is in a serious condition in Morriston Hospital.

“An investigation is being carried out to establish the exact circumstances of the fire.

“We wish to thank members of the community who helped at the scene and those who have come forward with information.”
