York emergency: Major bridge closed as police lockdown city centre


People in York are being told to avoid the Ouse bridge due to “a concern for safety”.

North Yorkshire police have been on the scene since the early hours of the morning.

The force tweeted: “Important information if you are planning to travel through York this morning.

“We are currently in the Ouse Bridge area of York following a concern for safety – road closure are in place.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

A group manager for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service also tweeted in relation to the ongoing incident.

He said: “The incident on the Ouse Bridge in York has been ongoing since the early hours.

@NYorksPolice & @NorthYorksFire remain in attendance Please stay away from the area as the bridge will be closed until the incident is concluded”.
