Victoria Derbyshire has reminded Omid Scobie “the buck stops with you” as he refused to apologise for the leak in the Dutch version of his book Endgame.
The royal author appeared on Newsnight on Thursday night following the scandal that erupted when the names of those involved in the ‘royal racism’ row were published in Dutch, after Mr Scobie claimed he had legally not been able to publish them in English.
The individuals in question were reportedly named in private letters between Meghan Markle and King Charles, which were exchanged after she and Prince Harry told Oprah Winfrey in their 2021 interview that there had been conversations had about how dark their son Prince Archie’s skin would be before he was born.
Details of these letters were shared in Endgame, however Mr Scobie has categorically denied having any intention to share the identities of those named with the world. When asked by Ms Derbyshire if he would like to apologise to the Royal Family, the author replied: “It’s not for me to apologise because I still want to know what’s happened.”

It was still business as usual for Prince William and Princess Kate despite the furore, as they welcomed Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden to Windsor Castle yesterday, November 30.
The four then attended the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall, with William there to offer his wife his support as she appeared “vulnerable”.
Body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail of the pair: “William’s gestures here look deliberate as he ‘presents’ his beautiful wife to the world on the red carpet. He uses a steering hand but he also extends his arm and hand in a romantic gesture of support which she accepts, throwing him a grateful-looking smile as she does so.
“Kate does look slightly vulnerable here, with less of a statuesque posture than normal for her red carpet appearances but her smile becomes warm as she connects with William with more shared eye contact than usual.”
