The UK is set to be hit by a rare weather event with a 400-mile ice storm on its way.
WXCharts has forecast freezing rain for April 9, bringing with it low temperatures, rain and snow.
Snow will hit as part of the storm across Scotland (Edinburgh to Inverness), with it being heaviest near Fort William at 14cm an hour. Freezing rain will hit the most near Edinburgh.
Freezing rain is a rare type of liquid precipitation that’s not seen often in the UK and needs specific conditions. Rain strikes a cold surface and freezes almost instantly.
Rain will follow the snow, hitting Aberdeen, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Hull, Manchester, Liverpool, Carlisle, Cardiff, Birmingham and Plymouth.
Temperatures will drop as low as 0C in central Scotland (Aberdeen, Fort William, Glasgow). It will be around 2C in north and south Scotland (Wick, Inverness, Edinburgh, Dumfries).
The north of England (Newcastle, Lancaster, Carlisle) and Northern Ireland (Belfast, Derry) will be between 4C and 8C. Wales (Cardiff, Conwy) will be 9C.
Manchester, Birmingham, Norwich will sit between 10C and 13C. The south of England (Plymouth, Southampton, London) will be between 9C and 11C.

Blustery showers continuing this evening, these heavy and carrying the risk of hail, particularly in the south and west. Turning drier overnight with clearer spells and a touch of rural frost under the lighter winds across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

A mixture of sunny spells and blustery scattered showers for Good Friday. These turning heavy and thundery at times, mainly in the west. Feeling warm in any prolonged sunshine.
Saturday to Monday:
Staying changeable through the Easter weekend, with scattered showers and sunny spells on Saturday. Turning drier on Easter Sunday with lighter winds. Uncertainty on Monday with rain or showers possible.
