Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk postponed as Gypsy King suffers 'severe cut'

Tyson Fury’s upcoming undisputed heavyweight fight with Oleksandr Usyk has been postponed after the Gypsy King suffered a severe cut that required stitches. Their clash was due to take place on February 17 in Saudi Arabia.

Fury suffered the cut during sparring as Usyk’s manager Egis Kilmas confirmed that Fury has delayed the bout, deeming himself unfit to make the date in just over two weeks.

The 35-year-old was prepared to put his WBC title on the line against Usyk’s WBO, WBA and IBF belts in Riyadh, but a cut above Fury’s eye has pushed the bout further back. No new date has been released.

Fury was preparing for the fight in Saudi, where he has been since late December, while Usyk was undertaking his own training camp in Spain, near Valencia.

However, both training camps will not be put on hold until a new date is named for the fight which will crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 199.

It is not yet known whether the delay will have a knock-on effect on Anthony Joshua’s upcoming fight with MMA fighter Francis Ngannou. IBF have been pushing for Usyk to face a mandatory challenger, which was set to be Fury.
