Tottenham were unable to produce another of their remarkable comebacks as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Wolves. Joao Gomes scored a brace as Ange Postecoglou was left to rue his side’s failure to score in a dominant first half. Here are five things Express Sport took away from the game.
James Maddison meets young fan
Young fan Samuel had a day to remember at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs midfielder James Maddison had been shown a clip of the youngster walking for the first time.
Samuel was invited to be a mascot for the game. A heartwarming viral clip shows Maddison greeting the supporter and his family before heading off to a team meeting.

Kulusevski’s solo strike
Spurs were struggling for inspiration before Kulusevski’s equaliser. The Swede scored a wonderful solo goal to bring Postecoglou’s side back into the game after Joao Gomes’ opener.
Kulusevski’s quick feet saw him swerve around two defenders and, from a tight angle, he poked the ball past Jose Sa. It was a piece of individual brilliance that Spurs had previously been lacking in the game.
Spurs continue incredible scoring streak
Kulusevski’s goal also ensured Spurs continued the second-longest scoring streak in Premier League history. The north Londoners have found the net in a remarkable 37 consecutive top-flight matches.
It is an even more impressive stat given the struggles under Antonio Conte and caretaker boss Ryan Mason towards the end of last season. Harry Kane’s departure has clearly not been a major issue.
However, it shows that Spurs must tighten up at the back. Keeping more clean sheets will result in more points, with Postecoglou’s attack providing the goals to fire the club back into the Champions League.
Gary O’Neil continues impressive Wolves job
O’Neil replaced Julen Lopetegui in the week before their Premier League opener against Man Utd last August. The former Portsmouth midfielder might have felt he had a point to prove after being dismissed by Bournemouth last summer despite keeping them in the top-flight.
The 41-year-old is starting to prove himself as an exceptionally astute coach. An impressive performance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football prior to Christmas gave an insight into his philosophy.
O’Neil’s Wolves have climbed the table despite pre-season predictions that they might face a relegation scrap. The Midlands side are 10th on 35 points, incidentally two places above Bournemouth.
