Erik ten Hag slams Man Utd stars for 'giving away' Burnley draw as job hangs by thread

Erik ten Hag slammed his Manchester United players after they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Burnley at Old Trafford. The Red Devils boss felt his side lacked control and ‘gave away’ two points in an ‘unnecessary’ manner.

Antony’s first goal of the Premier League season was cancelled out by a late Zeki Amdouni penalty. The result leaves United sixth in the top-flight, six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham in a disappointing campaign.

Ten Hag felt that his players ‘gave away’ the result after battling to take the lead early in the second half.

“Strong start to the game. Loads of chances then we lost in control in second part of first half. Burnley came back in the game and had some chances,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports.

“Second half was all ours and we are in a winning position and we give the game away at the end. Very frustrated, shouldn’t happen. You put yourself in difficult positions. Over many phases of the game we did very good so at the end we have to take the three points and the clean sheet. We gave it away again at the end.

“We put ourselves in a winning position by playing some good football – creating loads of chances and then to give it away in the end in the final minutes it’s so unnecessary.”
