Time running out for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as commercial deal expires in months

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to face another blow as their deal with Netflix will expire next year.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed with the popular streaming service in 2020 – shortly after stepping down as senior working royals.

The couple have only released three projects with Netflix so far, including their explosive docuseries in December 2022.

Meghan and Harry are said to be working on various projects but, so far, none have been officially announced.

Speaking to GB News, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams criticised the couple for their lack of output.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “They can turn it around if they come up with some work. The only thing they are doing as far as I can see with Invictus, Prince Harry already had that.”

Speaking of the couple’s Netflix deal, the expert added: “So they have not done anything, they lost Spotify. Will they lose Netflix? The contract runs out in 2025.

“It is rather bewildering their silence.”

Shortly after announcing that they were stepping down from royal duties, the couple also signed with Spotify.

In June 2023, the couple – and Spotify – announced that they were to part ways, although were “proud” of the one project they made together.

During the deal, which they sustained for around three years, Meghan released her 12-episode podcast series, Archetypes.

The Duchess released her first episode on August 23, 2022, with the final episode dropping at the end of November.

For Netflix, aside from the couple’s docuseries, Harry also released his own documentary titled Heart of Invictus.

The five-episode series followed six people who competed in the 2022 Invictus Games – which is a global sporting event founded by Harry in 2014.

Although less well-known, the couple also released a documentary titled Live to Lead on December 31, 2022.
