The reason Prince William is never seen wearing a wedding ring

Eagle-eyed Royal Family fans will have noticed Prince William is often spotted in public without a wedding ring.

Whereas the Princess of Wales regularly sports her Wartski wedding ring when out on public engagements. You would however be hard-pressed to ever find an imagine of William wearing a ring.

Well, that is because he was never given one, reports The Mirror. A whole month before the Royal wedding in 2011, St James’ Palace confirmed William would not have a ring.

According to sources close to William, it simply came down to a matter of preference.

A Palace insider revealed at the time: “He’s not one for jewellery. He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.

“Catherine will wear a ring fashioned from a lump of Welsh gold owned by the Royal Family that has been smelted down. The couple have both had a hand in the design.

This is the ring Prince Harry will carry and hand over in the traditional way.”

Kate’s ring is imbued with a special meaning, having been crafted from a piece of gold given to the couple by the late Queen Elizabeth II shortly after their engagement was announced. A statement released on their wedding day of April 29, 2011, read: “Prince William and Catherine Middleton chose Wartski to make the wedding ring for Miss Middleton.

“The ring has been fashioned from a piece of Welsh gold that was given to Prince William by the Queen shortly after the engagement was announced. The ring will be carried to Westminster Abbey by Prince William’s best man Prince Harry on the wedding day.”

William’s choice is the opposite to his brother Harry who can often be seen playing with the platinum band he was given by Meghan in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex’s ring is meanwhile fashioned from a piece of Welsh Gold, in keeping with the tradition for royal brides.

Meghan can often be seen wearing the ring alongside her engagement ring, which consists of two diamonds taken from Princess Diana’s collection and one from Botswana.

While Kate is known to back William’s decision not to wear the ring, she does wear a wedding band herself alongside her sapphire engagement ring, which once belonged to Princess Diana. Earlier this year, the Princess of Wales shared some new information about the stunning piece after it was complimented by a royal well-wisher.

Kate said: “It’s the same ring and it was exactly the same size when I tried it on.”
