Real reason Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson still live together 28 years after divorce

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were married and divorced within 10 years, but even so, they remain very close, says royal biographer Andrew Lownie.

Mr Lownie explained why the couple still live together despite the breakdown of their marriage.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Express US, he said: “The reason they are still living together is party because that they are still really good friends, and partly because they want to be good parents.”

He added: “She of course gets all the benefits of and status of being still connected to the Royal Family.

“She can live at Royal Lodge for free, and all the benefits of cooks and stuff, and it gives her her status, which is very important to her, by means of earning of a living.”

The couple are parents to Princess Beatrice, 35, and Princess Eugenie, 34. They are also proud grandparents to Eugenie’s son August, three, and baby Ernest, as well as Beatrice’s daughter Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, two.

According to Mr Lownie, Sarah “monetised her position of the Royal Family to the embarrassment of the Royal Family,” but she’s been forgiven, and it seems like she’s been welcomed back into fold.

He added: “And that again is one of the interesting sort of ups and downs of their story, it’s not just about their marriage, it’s about her relationship with other royals, whether she’s in or out.”

Mr Lownie is writing a joint biography about Andrew and Sarah, which is expected to come out next year.

During his research, he is hoping to speak to people who know the couple when they first got together.

Andrew and Sarah were married in 1986 and legally separted in 1992. Their divorce was finalized in 1996.

At the time, Sarah said she agreed to the divorce so she could pursue a career, but Mr Lownie says otherwise, claiming it was Queen Elizabeth II who insisted the two call it quits.
