The Crown: Is Meghan Markle in the final season? Fans curious ahead of Netflix release

Netflix will be dropping season six, part one of The Crown on Thursday, November 16 with a wait for the part two which lands on the global streamer on December 14.

This is the last-ever season of The Crown after the drama was uncancelled after creator Peter Morgan and his team decided to do one more season.

The Crown season six’s biggest events will be the death of Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki) and later on Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams) trying to win over the public and eventually getting married.

However, viewers are keen to know about Meghan Markle and if the former Suits star could be part of the show.

Is Meghan Markle in the final season?

The short answer is no, the Duchess of Sussex won’t be appearing in The Crown.

This is due to the timeline of the show, which is expected to end around Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ wedding in 2005.

Instead, the focus will be on Prince William (Ed McVey) and his blossoming romance with Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy) during the pair’s meeting at the University of St Andrew’s.

Morgan has previously spoken about his “20-year-rule” with The Crown and wanting to maintain a “distance” between the stories he’s telling and real-life events.

The award-winning writer previously told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2020: “I just think you get so much more interesting (with time).

“Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end.

“One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago.

“I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance.”

Despite Meghan not being part of the show, she and Prince Harry are said to be helping Netflix fix The Crown’s “credibility issue”.

She also previously said she didn’t know anything about any actresses portraying her in The Crown.

Fans of The Crown were also treated to a glitzy LA premiere recently after the SAG-AFTRA strikes finally came to an end last week.

The premiere saw the show’s biggest stars hit the red carpet including Australian actress Debicki as well as Bellamy, McVey and Luther Ford, who plays the adult version of Prince Harry in the show.
