Eyewitnesses reported seeing the group in Portland Street North in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside, on Sunday night (November 5) at around 6.30pm, reports Manchester Evening News.

A witness, who asked not to be named, said the teens were “turning the streets of Tameside into a battlefield” as they lobbed the fireworks that landed near him and his young son.

Express.co.uk has approached Greater Manchester Police and Tameside Council for comment.

A Tameside Council spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: “We work with police and partners as part of the Tameside Community Safety Partnership to tackle crime and disorder and create safer communities.

“In particular, we have worked with partners on the Greater Manchester wide bonfire safety campaign, which undertakes a multi-agency approach to preventing, tackling and protecting against bonfire and firework injuries, anti-social behaviour and criminal damage during the Halloween and bonfire period.

“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and anyone who witnesses incidents such as this should report them to the police.”

Meanwhile police in Edinburgh were attacked and injured with “fireworks, petrol bombs and other projectiles” by a group of youths with riot squads in place to deal with the anti-social behaviour also on Sunday, November 5.

In a statement Police Scotland said several officers had suffered minor injuries following the incident which reportedly occurred in Hay Avenue in Niddrie where around 100 people clashed with the riot police during Edinburgh Bonfire Night.

Police Scotland said that Specialist Public Order resources were deployed to the area as part of Operation Moonbeam. This move was aimed at supporting local police in the area.

In a statement, Police Scotland explained that around 50 young people were responsible for launching fireworks at officers.

They explained: “Officers received reports from concerned members of the public at around 4.40pm in relation to a group of both adults and young people gathering in the Hay Avenue area of Edinburgh.
