Teacher, 24, accused of sending nude photos and explicit video to 16-year-old student

A teacher, 24, has been accused of sending nudes to a 16-year-old student and inviting him to her house while her husband was out of town.

Rikki Lynn Laughlin, from Missouri, allegedly sent the X-rated images as well as a video of herself using a dildo to the student.

The St. James High School teacher is also accused of soliciting similar nude pictures from the student on Snapchat, according to the Riverfront Times.

After the school district reported a possible inappropriate relationship, a detective is believed to have visited the student at their home.

The teen admitted that they had kissed after saying “things progressed fast,” the outlet reported.

Laughlin also allegedly invited him to have sex at her home while her husband was out of town, but the student “made excuses for not meeting with Laughlin because he did not feel comfortable,” Maries County Sheriff’s Office reportedly states.

The teacher reportedly told the student to delete the images as she could go to jail but he was able to provide some photographs to detectives, officials said.

While being interviewed by police, Laughlin admitted she had been in touch with the student over Snapchat but claimed that he started the conversation and she was unaware he was a minor.

The Riverfront Times reported that she allegedly told officers: “I was not aware he was a minor until yesterday.”

Officers then searched her phone and found an explicit video similar to what the student had described, officials said.

Laughlin now faces charges of possession of child porn, tampering with a victim, attempted statutory rape, sexual exploitation of a minor, tampering with physical evidence, and sexual trafficking of a child.

She also faces one misdemeanor count of furnishing pornographic materials to minors.

If found guilty of even just one of those offences, she could face over 20 years in prison.

School district Superintendent Tim Webster did not name Laughlin, but confirmed to KSDK that a teacher was “immediately escorted from school property and placed on leave pending investigation.”

Webster said in a statement: “The District takes these matters seriously and reported allegations to appropriate outside agencies, including law enforcement.

“Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our students, and we do not tolerate any policy or law violations within our educational community.”

Her bond has been set at $100,000 and she has a court hearing scheduled for November 20.
