Sydney shopping centre attack hero reveals horror after saving baby's life from stabbing

A major incident at Sydney’s Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction, Australia, has seen a mother and her baby “stabbed” and seriously injured.

Two men told 9News Australia they helped the mother and her baby as soon as they saw them, with one of them saying they were “trying to hold the baby and compress the baby and same with the mother, trying to compress the blood”.

The other man said: “It was really bad, there was a lot of blood on the floor.

“I hope the baby is alright.”

A passerby called the man a “hero”, while he replied it was a “very dramatic afternoon.”

Media reports say multiple people have been stabbed and that the police shot a person at the Sydney shopping centre.

ABC TV in Australia reported Saturday that police evacuated shoppers at Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that four people died in a stabbing. Police couldn’t be immediately reached to confirm the report. The newspaper said one person was also shot, but it wasn’t clear if the person had died.

Video showed many ambulances and police cars, as well as crowds of people, around the shopping centre.

Paramedics were treating patients at the scene.

Witness Roi Huberman told ABC he sheltered in a store and saw people leaving the mall in tears.

New South Wales Police said in a statement: “A critical incident has commenced following the shooting of a male at Bondi Junction.

“Just before 4pm, emergency services were called to Westfield Bondi Junction following reports of multiple people stabbed.”

News website news.com.au reported witnesses claiming a man began stabbing shoppers at random before being shot by police.

The Australian website reported that a nine-month-old baby was among those who were stabbed.
