Six Nations 'madness' that left stars standing still prompts calls for law to be changed

“Then they’re onside. There was a great example from the game on the weekend and it’s something the lawmakers are going to have to change. The reason you kick back and forth is to tire out the front-five. Look at the Welsh forwards and backs. That’s not a mark, it was caught outside the 22.

“But it basically creates a natural break in play. There’s been a game recently where there was 14 kicks back and forth, with everyone else in the middle of the field not having to move. That’s wrong.

“But also, because you’re not having to move, it doesn’t open up the opportunity to counter-attack without getting turned over. It’s very smart and everyone is copying Dupont now, but it is an area that they will have to change. In fairness, Finn Russell could have just stopped there and, as long as no one moved, he could have taken a break in play. It’s madness.”
