Six Nations LIVE: Star banned for rest of tournament as England left sweating

Marcus Smith faces a race against time to be fit for England’s crunch Six Nations clash with Ireland on March 9.

The fly-half suffered a calf problem during pre-tournament training and has subsequently missed all three rounds of matches.

England also hope that Alex Mitchell, who has missed two games with a knee injury, will be fit to face the Irish.

“I am very hopeful that Marcus will be available for selection for this latter part of the tournament,” Steve Borthwick said.

“We have got positive news on Alex Mitchell’s injury, we are hopeful he will feature in the latter part of this tournament – whether that’s the next game, we are not sure, but we are hopeful he will be available as well.”
