'Ruthless' Prince Harry wanted to look like 'hero' by King's side before glitzy event

She claimed many royal watchers believe Harry is an “opportunist” and “jumped on the plane to look like a hero” while others, including herself, thought that Harry’s visit indicated something “serious”.

But after the prince’s appearance at the NFL awards, she said the monarch’s younger son looked “ruthless”.

She told Sky News Australia: “I felt like oh my goodness, it [the UK visit] wasn’t to be with your Dad, it wasn’t because it was important to you to bring comfort to your father, it was just so that you weren’t destroyed for showing up at the NFL Honours awards to hand out a trophy.”

Schofield added: “He has nothing to do with American football – why was he there? He was there because it was the climax of the football season; he was trying to insert himself in a major news story.

“I think that, to me, he just looks ruthless; he looks so vain, and I’m exhausted by him, and I’m so tired of giving him the benefit of the doubt and being disappointed by him.”

It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have travelled to Canada this week to mark one year to go until the Invictus Games 2025.

The Games – an international multi-sport event – have been Harry’s passion project since 2014, which he launched for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans.
