Meghan Markle wanted to attend King Charles III’s Coronation on May 6 but high levels of scrutiny have forced her no-show decision, a friend has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex will stay behind in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet while Prince Harry attends his father’s big day solo.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the friend said: “Meghan wants to be there to support her father-in-law, but at the same time, the scrutiny she receives outweighs the support. There’s always going to be that other side challenging their reasoning, and who wants to put themselves in that position?”. Prince Harry’s confirmation that he will attend the Coronation ended months-long speculation over whether he and Meghan would be there and in what capacity. Reports suggest the Prince’s visit will be short and that he will return to be with his children soon after the ceremony on May 6.
