King Charles gave Prince Harry a “right royal flea in the ear” by snubbing his son’s UK visit, an expert has said. The Duke of Sussex was expected to meet his father during a trip to Britain to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, given father and son were only a few miles apart.
But Harry revealed on Wednesday that he would not meet the monarch while in the country because of the 75-year-old’s busy schedule of engagements elsewhere in the capital.
Speaking on GB News, former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole said: “The fact the King has not found time during the three days that his younger son has been in London to see him is a definite right royal flea in the ear for Prince Harry – and a lot of people around the country and around the world will be saying ‘and about time too’.”
He went on to say that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have made some “very, very bitter, very hard, very cruel allegations against not just the King and Queen Camilla, but Prince William and his wife”.
He added: “That has gone home very firmly. Nothing could actually be worse in a family to have this division and bitterness and unkindness.”
Mr Cole starkly warned the Duke: “Actions have consequences.”
And while there has been much talk recently of a potential royal reconciliation with the Sussexes, Mr Cole said: “The division between the California couple in their hilltop camelot and the British Royal Family getting on with the job is now very, very deep and the divisions are stark.”
Prince Harry has attended several events while in London to mark the anniversary of the Invictus Games, an annual competition he set up for injured servicemen and veterans.
