O’Sullivan confirmed that Peters would be at the Crucible for the World Championships to help the Rocket, who does not want to retire from snooker. The 48-year-old enjoys the lifestyle and travel that comes with being a professional sportsman, but insisted that another year of similar performances would be enough to tempt him into hanging up the cue.
“I’ll only retire if I think I’m not playing well enough for long enough, which has been going on a while now,” O’Sullivan added. “That’s obviously something that distresses me enough to think. ‘I don’t want to keep doing that.’ But like I said, if I can learn to live with it.
“I don’t have to win, you know, I just like travelling, I like the people I meet, I like the people I work with; I have a great time with all my sponsors and stuff like that. That’d be hard to give up. It’d be hard to give up all the exhibitions I do, the places I get to travel to. That’s why I don’t want to give it up.
“But you’ve got to enjoy the playing, you know, and it’s been a tough year. If I can get back to enjoy the playing, then I’ll be the happiest man in the world.”
