Roger Federer's ex-coach Severin Luthi breaks silence on sudden split with Holger Rune

While Becker will continue in his role as Rune’s coach, Kenneth Carlsen will step up to fill Luthi’s absence. He has experience in working with Rune and joined him in Brisbane at the start of 2024, where the world No. 7 reached the final.

“With the pairing of Boris and Kenneth, Holger gets the flow he wants for his development and stability,” Aneke added. The news of Luthi’s departure still came as a surprise, as Rune was talking up his new coach just a few weeks ago in Australia.

Explaining what Federer’s old mentor brought to the table, the 20-year-old said: “Great energy, great advice, talking from a lot of experience for sure. It’s cool to have him around, with Boris as well. It’s really cool to have stability around me and people that I believe in so that means a lot.”
