Queen's emotional final balcony appearance came after Charles 'convinced her to come'

At the time, a source told the Daily Mail: “The Queen only decided that she would go to London about three hours before the balcony appearance.

“She was not feeling brilliant but the [former] Prince of Wales had called her and told her [that] she really ought to come if she could.

“He told her there were so many people desperate to see her and he convinced her to come.”

The late Queen, dressed in bright green, looked emotional as she waved to people lining the Mall.

Following the Coronation last month, the royals gathered on the balcony again – their first appearance since the late Queen’s death.

The newly-crowned King and Queen were joined on the balcony by various working royals.

Some of those in attendance included the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 8, and five-year-old Prince Louis, who are often branded the future of the monarchy, joined their royal parents on the balcony – as did Prince Edward’s two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’s three children are often deemed the future of the monarchy, with Prince George currently second in line to the throne.
