Queen would be 'proud' of King Charles's 'seamless' transition to monarch – expert

The late Queen would be “proud” with how well her eldest son, Charles, has transitioned into his role as King, an expert has said.

September 8 marked the first anniversary of the late Queen’s death, but also 12 months to the day when Charles III automatically became monarch.

Referring to how “seamless” transitions between monarchs usually are, royal expert Marlene Koenig said that the last 365 days have seen “continuity and a seamless progression” from Queen Elizabeth II to King Charles III.

Ms Koenig added: “Due to his long apprenticeship as Prince of Wales, Charles was well prepared to succeed his mother.”

Having taken on the role of King aged 73, Charles III was the longest-serving heir apparent and Prince of Wales during his mother’s 70-year reign.

Praising the King, Ms Koenig said: “Charles has not put a foot wrong. His humour remains intact.

“But he knows that he will not reign nearly as long as his mother, which is why William, at times, is front and centre to give him the expertise and knowledge he will need when he succeeds his father.”

Speaking to Express.co.uk, she added: “Charles is not his mother. He is his own person, and I believe his mother would be proud of Charles’s first year as King.”

Speaking of the last year as a whole, the expert said: “It was a seamless transition, as it should be.”

In the days following her death last year, the King proposed a speech about his “beloved” mother.

In his speech, the King referred to the Queen’s promise of service at the age of 21 in 1947, and said: “That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”

On Friday, the King remained in Scotland for both the anniversary of his mother’s death and to mark his first year as monarch.
