Princess Kate's sweet note after Prince William proposed on romantic getaway

Prince William and Princess Kate’s relationship originally began when they met at the prestigious St Andrews University, in their St Salvator’s Hall residence in the mid 2000s. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though – the pair had a harsh break up while still at uni, although this didn’t make the national press back at the time.

They then had another bust up once they had graduated, during which time Prince William allegedly told his grandmother, the beloved Queen Elizabeth II, that he wasn’t sure about Kate.

However, the two got back together just a few months later, and William was quickly summoned by the leader of The Firm for some harsh words. She told him that five years had been more than enough time to know if he really loved her – and if he did, then he should propose.

William seemed to take that advice onboard – during a trip to Kenya, he finally got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend. Although they kept this news secret for a few months, the pair were officially engaged on October 20, 2010, reports the Daily Record.

The proposal was very romantic according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, who said he had organised a log cabin for their stay, before the couple went fishing for rainbow trout during the day – although didn’t catch any.

After the fishing trip, Wills brought Kate onto the veranda and asked her to marry him. The couple left the following morning, but left very nice notes on the pillows to thank the lodges for their hospitality.

Kate wrote: “Thank you for such a wonderful 24 hours!

“Sadly no fish to be found but we had fun trying. I love the warm fires and candlelights—so romantic. Hope to be back soon.”

William wrote: “20th-21st October 2010. Such fun to be back! Brought more clothes this time! Looked after so well. Thank you guys! Look forward to next time, soon I hope.”

The pair married on 29 April at Westminster Cathedral, in front of millions of adoring fans, whether in person or watching on TV.
