Princess Kate‘s abdominal surgery is not believed to be cancer-related, a royal expert has said. Kensington Palace announced in a statement today that the Princess of Wales was being treated in hospital after undergoing successful abdominal surgery.
Kate, 42, was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday (January 16) for the planned procedure.
Royal expert Rebecca English wrote on X that her understanding was that Princess Kate’s surgery was non-cancerous, but Kensington Palace would not get into speculation over the royal’s condition.
The future Queen is expected to stay in hospital for 10 to 14 days before returning home to continue her recovery.
Kensington Palace said the princess is not expected to return to public duties until after Easter based on current medical advice. The Prince and Princess of Wales had been scheduled to visit Rome.
A Palace spokesperson said: “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate.
“She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.
“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements.
“She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
Ms English said once discharged Princess Kate is expected to recover at home in Windsor and is likely to be advised to recuperate for two to three months.
The royal’s return to official duties “will depend on medical advice closer to the time”, according to Ms English. She added: “I don’t expect we will see her until after Easter.”
The royal expert said Prince William will combine being by his wife’s and children’s side throughout. She said the Prince of Wales will not undertake official duties while his wife is in hospital, and during the immediate period following her return home.
He has therefore postponed a number of engagements, according to Ms English.
Kate last appeared in public on Christmas Day when she attended a service along with her husband and children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
