Princess Anne has been praised for her fashion choice in Sri Lanka, as a royal commentator noted that she appeared to pay a subtle tribute to her late mother, Queen Elizabeth.
The Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence are currently in the country for a two-day visit, and were welcomed with an official dinner hosted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe at his residence in Colombo.
Daily Mail royal editor Rebecca English shared a tweet of the occasion, in which she commented on the white gloves Anne wore to complement her colourful floral dress.
She wrote: “Nice to see that the Princess Royal is wearing Queen Elizabeth-style white gloves for her dinner with the President of Sri Lanka. Sweet nod to her mother.”
The dinner was held in honour of the 75th anniversary of UK-Sri Lanka bilateral relations, with pictures of the event being shared by the British High Commission in Sri Lanka.
Anne is often heralded as the hardest-working member of the Firm, completing hundreds of engagements each year despite being in her seventies.
A royal expert explained to Express.co.uk why the Princess Royal was chosen as the first member of the family to go away in 2024, as she was praised as being “invaluable” to King Charles.
Richard Fitzwilliams said: “Princess Anne is an example of what the public most admire in a working royal, she is dedicated, conscientious and prefers a low profile and no fuss.
“She also tends to be the hardest-working member of the royal family. With only four working royals under 70, she is invaluable to King Charles.”
On Wednesday Anne visited a hospital in Colombo which helps young people from across the country express their feelings and build resilience through play and games, even though many of them face serious illnesses.
She also visited the offices of the Save the Children charity, an organisation she has been patron of since 2017, following her position as President which she held from 1970.
