Princess Anne hair hack to recreate her signature bouffant style in five easy steps

Widely popular in the 60s and 70s, Princess Anne’s signature bouffant hairdo remains her go-to look and a style she effortlessly pulls off at various royal engagements.

Hair expert at Justmylook, Hayley Walker, who has over 20 years of industry experience, believes the beehive-do is a “bold choice” made by the Princess Royal.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she explained: “Why fix something that isn’t broken? Princess Anne’s effortlessly put-together hairdo has been a staple in her appearance, with many women still rocking the voluminous hairstyle.”

Often dubbed the “hardest-working” royal, Princess Anne is a reliable member of the Firm, standing in for King Charles and Princess Kate as they battle their cancer diagnoses.

Hayley explained: “Ironically, despite being a lowkey person, a bouffant is a bold choice – perhaps channelling her strong-willed, hard-working, and independent persona.”

Here is how to create your own Princess Anne bouffant hairdo at home:

Hair expert, Hayley, says the bouffant hairstyle famously worn by the Princess Royal “takes precision” but can be achieved easily at home.

Step one

The first step is to make sure your hair is completely dry by brushing away any knots that may be tangled in your hair.

Step two

The next step is to “spritz a small amount of texture spray” throughout your hair to improve grip and to ensure there are no flyaways.

Hayley recommends using the Maria Nila Texture Spray Dry Texturising Spray to achieve the correct grip.

Step three

It’s now time to backcomb the hair, and you can do this by “teasing the hair at the root of the crown” with a teasing comb.

Hayley explains the amount of backcombing you do is “down to preference”, but the more teasing you do, the more volumised the look will be.

Step four

To help set the style, once the backcombing process is done “apply a strong-hold hairspray”. Spray it all over your hair. Next, gently brush the hair upwards toward the back of the head, using a boar-bristle brush.

Step five

Now, ditch the tools and use your hands to pull the hair into a low ponytail. Without using a hair tie, twist the ponytail and fold it into the back of the head, creating that bouffant look.

Finally, tuck the hair under the ponytail and secure it with hairpins, just like Princess Anne. To finish, use a hairspray again, to set the style.

Congratulations, you have now achieved your perfect Princess Anne-style hairdo!
