Prince William ‘feels hurt and exploited’ by Harry’s Netflix decision

Prince William is said to “feel hurt” by his brother’s actions when he signed the multi-million dollar deal with Netflix along with his wife, Meghan Markle, according to a source.

When Harry and Meghan released their six-part docuseries with Netflix in December 2022, they took aim at their royal relatives including Prince William, King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The streaming giant is also behind the controversial royal drama, The Crown, which has had its historical accuracy questioned over the years. Season six of the drama is due to be released next month, with the episodes split into two batches.

Reports have suggested the new series will feature Princess Diana as a ghost and she is to appear in front of her ex-husband Prince Charles, and the late Queen.

Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, will have an emotional reconciliation with a grieving Prince Charles, played by Dominic West, in the sixth season of the show.

As reported in the Mirror, a source has revealed Harry being involved with Netflix has not gone down well with William.

Prince William’s pal told Daily Beast: “William is angry about a lot of things in connection with Harry. His decision to work with Netflix, who have ruthlessly exploited the family, is certainly one of them. It’s incredibly hurtful to have his mother exploited over and over again in this tawdry fashion by Netflix. He won’t watch it, but he will be totally sickened by it.”

It is not known if royals have watched The Crown, but many have spoken about the TV drama in passing.

According to the Daily Mail, former leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Anas Sarwar, said King Charles made a quip about the show when he attended a multi-faith event before the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 2021.

King Charles reportedly insisted the way he is portrayed on the show is “nowhere near” what he is really like in real life.

Appearing at an event at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Mr Sarwar said: “There was a group of MSPs all standing and he came over and went, ‘hello, nice to meet you all’ and he went, ‘I’m nowhere near how they portray me on Netflix’. I thought that was a really interesting way of how you describe yourself.”

Prince Harry has confessed he has watched the show. During an interview with James Corden, he explained it is “loosely based on the truth.”

He added: “They don’t pretend to be news, it’s fictional but it’s loosely based on the truth. Of course, it’s not strictly accurate, but loosely, it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that. I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, or my wife or myself.”
