Prince Harry's royal return claims torn apart as 'terms are quite clear'

Prince Harry will not be returning to the royal fold as his father, King Charles, undergoes cancer treatment, it has been claimed.

Earlier this week, it was reported the Duke of Sussex – who is one of the monarch’s Counsellors of State – is willing to step into a temporary royal role.

According to The Times, Harry told friends he would step into such a role while Charles is unwell and that father and son have had several “warm exchanges” since the King’s illness was diagnosed, it was claimed.

But whilst Harry may have suggested Charles’s illness could lead to a reconciliation with him during his interview on Good Morning America, he didn’t say he would return and seemed to hint the opposite.

He told the US breakfast Show after being asked about his father’s health while living in California: “I have my own family as we all do. My family and my life in California is as it is.

“I have got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so I will stop in and see my family as much as I can.”

Meanwhile, another source told the Telegraph that the arrangement Harry accepted when he stepped down as a working royal in 2020, is reportedly set to remain in place.

They said: “Those terms were quite clear, and the King’s illness hasn’t altered that.”

During his latest interview, the duke also said “I love my family” and that he was “grateful” to be able to spend time with his father when he flew back to the UK.

Harry dashed to the UK early last week after the King’s cancer diagnosis was announced.

The prince spent a little over 25 hours in the country and had a brief meeting with his father at Clarence House, but did not see his brother, Prince William.

But his recent trip sparked hope there could be a form of reconciliation in the future.

Asked about whether a family illness could have a “re-unifying effect” on GMA, Harry replied: “Yeah, I’m sure.”

Since stepping down as working royals in 2020 and moving to California, the Sussexes have been estranged from the royals after airing allegations and grievances against the monarchy and members of the royal family which have also soured relations.
