Prince Harry's pal reveals intensely awkward moment with Meghan Markle: 'Head in hands'

Prince Harry’s friend has dished on Meghan Markle’s awkward moment during her first appearance as a royal.

Just three months before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan gave a speech at the 2018 Endeavour Fund Awards.

However, not everything went to plan as Meghan scanned through pieces of paper alongside co-host Neil Heritage.

They were making sure they announced the correct award, the friend of Harry recalled.

David Wiseman, the director of the Invictus Games Foundation and a close friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed the awkward exchange on an episode of A Right Royal Podcast.

He said: “I messed up at work! It was [Meghan’s] first time she’d spoken in public as the [future] Duchess of Sussex.

“I was writing the scripts and there was a last-minute request for a change from her team.

“But she got the old version, and the new version was sent to her co-host.

“They were there on stage, and they had two different versions of the script.

“I don’t know if you remember, they were both sort of not arguing but saying no, this is the version, this is the version, and so there was a fluff of the lines in front of everybody on her first opening speech as the [future] Duchess of Sussex.

“And I was just there in the front row, sitting next to Harry just like almost head in hands going ‘Oh, oh, just, just skip it, just skip it, move on, move on, move on.'”

Mr Wiseman admitted that Meghan later kindly texted him to say: “David, it’s M, honestly really don’t worry about it!”

Harry and Meghan did not enjoy their time as working royals and decided to leave that life behind in 2020.

They now live in California with their two children, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.
