Prince Harry 'roared' after opening Xmas present from Meghan Markle that Archie 'smashed'

Prince Harry “roared” when he opened a Christmas present from Meghan Markle after the Sussexes quit the Royal Family and moved to California.

The Duke and Duchess have led a new life in the US, meaning they have spent the last few Christmas periods at home in Montecito rather than the UK.

Harry recalled their first Christmas in the US in his memoir ‘Spare’, saying: “It was Christmas Eve. We FaceTimed with several friends, including a few in Britain.

“We watched Archie running around the tree. And we opened presents. Keeping to the Windsor family tradition.

“One present was a little Christmas ornament of… the Queen! I roared. What the—? Meg had spotted it in a local store and thought I might like it.

“I held it to the light. It was Granny’s face to a T. I hung it on an eye-level branch. It made me happy to see her there.”

But Harry also explained that the decoration was soon broken by his son Archie.

He added: “But then Archie, playing around the tree, jostled the stand, shook the tree, and Granny fell. I heard a smash and turned. Pieces lay all over the floor.

“Archie ran and grabbed a spray bottle. For some reason, he thought spraying water on the broken pieces would fix it. Meg said: ‘No, Archie, no — do not spray Gan-Gan!’ I grabbed a dustpan and swept up the pieces, all the while thinking: This is weird.”

On Friday evening, Harry and Meghan released a Christmas message as they plan to spend the festive period in the US once again.

It said: “On behalf of the office of Prince Harry & Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation, we wish you a very happy holiday season.”

Unlike previous years, the Sussexes did not include a picture of their children, Archie and Lilibet, alongside the message.

Last year’s card was the first time the couple revealed a picture of their second child, Lilibet, now aged two.

This comes amid reports that King Charles would have “loved” to have had Harry and Meghan in the UK for Christmas.

However, Vanity Fair also reported that a royal insider says there is “no chance” of Harry, Meghan, and their children being invited to join the royals because there is still so much “hostility” toward them.

The source added: “The King would love nothing more than to have Christmas with his sons and all his grandchildren, but it’s not that simple and there is no chance the Sussexes will be coming.

“It would make things very difficult because there is still so much hostility towards Harry and Meghan, particularly from the Prince and Princess of Wales.

“Charles is also deeply nervous about the risks of conversations being leaked by the Sussex camp, which is why there have been very few of them.”
