Prince Andrew 'never had a lot of friends' and feels he has been 'unjustly treated'

Prince Andrew has never had many friend but continues to feel as though he has been unjustly treated by perceptions of him in the media, according to a royal biographer.

Author Andrew Lownie, who is penning a book on the Duke and Duchess of York to be released next year, also described Andrew as “not a reflective person.”

He has been out of the public eye since a disastrous BBC Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis in 2019 which focused on his former friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Lownie told Daily Express US: “Yes, of course (he’s a little lost), imagine yourself in that position, he’s got a lot of critical commentary in the press, he’s living this very quiet life, he’s never had lots of friends, and he’s having to reassess his life, to say he’s this pariah figure.”

According to Mr Lownie, he is happy with how he was depicted in the TV movie Scoop, which dramatises the lead-up to the interview that got him fired from royal life.

The writer claimed: “He likes Scoop, he’s constantly probing to test public opinion to see if he can come back.”

Scoop is about the negotiations that led to Andrew agreeing to the interview.

Mr Lownie talks about the depiction, saying: “Most people would be so humiliated and embarrassed and roll up into a ball, but that isn’t Prince Andrew.

“He’s not someone to be bowed by a temporary set back. So, he wants to come back.”
