Prince Harry and William still not speaking as relationship 'strained' by Spare

Prince Harry and Prince William still endure a “strained” relationship and have not spoken since the release of Spare, an insider has claimed.

The siblings’ relationship was put under the microscope after Harry released his bombshell memoir Spare in January, which went on to become the fastest-selling non-fiction book in UK history.

In its pages, Harry alleged that William became physical with him after the couple engaged in a war of words over the Duke of Sussex’s wife, Meghan Markle.

He also took aim at King Charles III and Queen Camilla, writing that the latter was not interested in an alliance with him because, unlike William, he would not be monarch one day.

A royal insider has now told People.com that despite suggestions Harry and William patch up their relationship at King Charles III’s Coronation at Westminster Abbey in May, any reconciliation would take much longer.

One said: “Things are strained”. Another added: “I don’t think the coronation and a big conversation can be conflated.”

Harry and William’s lives became deeply entwined when they were both thrust into the spotlight after their mother Princess Diana tragically died in a Parisian car crash more than 25 years ago.

Across the decades since both have spoken ardently about their shared grief, and joined together in 2021 to unveil a new statue for Diana in Kensington Palace on what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday.

But in the pages of Spare, Harry painted a different relationship brewing with William.

Revealing details of one explosive altercation, Prince Harry wrote: “William called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

Though Harry faces a mammoth challenge in reengaging with his brother, reports suggest that his relationship with Charles may already be on the mend – despite the monarch’s outrage over Spare and some of Harry’s TV interviews.

Sources say that the father-and-son duo held “positive” talks after question marks arose over whether or not Harry would attend the historic Coronation next month.

Harry was initially concerned about some of the details regarding the event, which is the first time in eight decades that a new king or queen will be crowned.

According to one source, the Sussexes “didn’t hear from Charles… Harry wanted to hear from his father directly”, as ordinarily one of his team would instead communicate with his youngest son.

But after the pair chatted, a statement was released confirming Harry’s appearance at the Coronation, though Meghan opted to remain stateside with their two young children.
