Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Invictus Games 'reflect well on the Royal Family'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s time in Canada appears to have gone well and it makes the Royal Family look good as a whole, including Prince William and Princess Kate, says a royal insider.

Harry and Meghan traveled to Canada last week for the Invictus Games one-year countdown. The Sussexes had a three-day stay, spending time in both Vancouver and Whistler, where they took part in Winter Training, alongside wounded veterans.

Daily Express US spoke to Tom Quinn, author of Gilded Youth: In Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, who said: “Very interesting times for Harry and Meghan – I think they warm up and become more personable when the Invictus games come along.”

Mr Quinn believes “the games mean a lot to Harry and Meghan” and as a result, it makes “the prince feel a bit more positive about his relationship with his father.”

But, it doesn’t stop there. “It reflects on the Royal Family as a whole,” says the royal author.

He adds: “I don’t think Kate and William will mind at all if the focus shifts to Harry and Meghan, even if the focus is unusually warm and positive. It never looks good for us to be reminded that Harry is angry and resentful at his father and William.”

The Invictus Games is dedicated to former soldiers who were wounded while serving and are in recovery. The annual event brings people together, the soldiers, their families, the public, and, of course, Harry and Meghan.

Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014. By being hands-on, and traveling to the games each year, he helps bring a spotlight to those in need, inviting the public to share in their accomplishments.

For that matter, Harry learns from the veterans, with Quinn saying: “I think the veterans remind him that illness and disability are far more important than petty rows and arguments.”

Quinn is referring to King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, which was announced the week prior to the Sussexes traveling to Canada. It appears the Canada visit was planned well in advance, and it just happened to come after King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, there was no disrespect intended, it’s being reported.

He talks about how Harry’s time was spent while at the Invictus Games: “I’m sure the king’s cancer diagnosis fits into this – whatever difficulties Harry has had with his father, he won’t want to be seen not to care and I suspect he really does care.”

The royal expert talks about how Harry may have processed the news of his father having cancer: “It will have been a shock to him as, like most people, he will have assumed that his father would go on as monarch probably into his 90s just as Elizabeth II did.”

He says of the cancer prognosis, that Charles is reminded that “he is only mortal,” and it would most likely be welcomed by the king that his sons could “put their differences behind them and unite to help Charles through what is bound to be a very difficult period.”
