Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move past Spare row to embrace 'international stardom'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can finally put the Spare saga to bed now they have achieved “international” fame, one royal author claims.

It comes more than ten months after the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir, which ignited a firestorm on both sides of the Atlantic.

To the Duke’s critics, he effectively declared war on his family by releasing Spare, which focused on life inside Palace walls.

Close family members, such as his brother, Prince William, got a particularly raw deal in the book.

Poll ratings for the Sussexes slumped following its release as the couple’s detractors doubled down on the claim they were once against trashing the Royal Family in exchange for fame and fortune.

But for Harry and Meghan, this torrid time is now over, Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen has told Daily Express US.

He said: “I think the book is behind them now. Spare is history.

“They’ll have lives very much like people who don’t have to worry anymore about their home base. They’ll be international rather than having any affinity with Britain.”

Crucially, Irving went on, the Sussexes have managed to carve out a career for themselves that’s wholly independent of the monarchy.

He explained: “Harry and Meghan’s celebrity used to rest on the former’s connection to the Royal Family, but they’ve now been celebrities in their own right for so long that they don’t need to trade on that anymore. That’s no longer part of their lives.”

The couple are certainly making noises that suggest they have moved on from the royals.

Meghan recently said she is “thrilled” to be working on several entertainment projects with her husband.

The Duchess of Sussex hinted at future projects as she took to the red carpet in Los Angeles for the Variety Power of Women event.

She said: “We have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them, but I’m just really proud of what we’re creating. My husband is loving it too which is really fun.”

The Duchess added: “I think the more we support each other it just amplifies the work, amplifies our community and I’m just thrilled to be back in it and to be able to sit in this room and be in such good company tonight.”
