Prince Harry and Meghan ‘let people in’ and now the public has lost interest, says expert

Prince Harry and Meghan opened their doors to the public, sharing their lives with fans via the six-part Netflix docuseries, and as a result, it may have taken away the mystery, says an unscripted TV expert.

Kate Casey, host of Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast, compares the Sussexes to that of reality TV cast members, who quit the show and did a spinoff, and now people just aren’t all that interested in them.

And, like actual reality stars, Harry may need some time away from the show, aka the Royal Family, “to mix his life up a bit” and them come back, and tell his story, suggests Ms Casey.

Casey explains: “People have sort of let go of wanting to know every single thing about Harry and Meghan, because they let people in a little bit.”

She adds: “And now, I feel like, and people are less interested in them, because they let them in a little bit.”

Harry and Meghan had a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, followed by Harry’s memoir Spare, then the Netflix docuseries came out, so, they may have let people in a little bit more than “a little bit,” and as a result, people feel like they know the story, and they’re not left wanting more, suggests Casey.

“It’s probably frustrated them at times, in term of getting more opportunities, because people were clamouring to know who they were and what their life was like, and then they made a docuseries.”

It’s not to suggest the moment has completely passed, with Casey saying Harry becomes “more and more interesting, the older he gets,” and she credits that to people having “introspection” after stepping away from a situation, whether it be reality TV or royal life or… both.

Casey expands on her reality TV comparison, explaining her theory:

“It was like Meghan was on The Real Housewives of London, but then she decided to leave the show, so I don’t think of her as much, because she’s not on the show anymore.

“Harry was on the show, he didn’t like the show he was on, and then they did a spinoff, and they didn’t like the spinoff, and they might come up with another project later.”

“He wrote the book. I feel like he’s told his story. And I’m at a point, where I kind of understand this story, and I feel like, he kind of wants to create a new life in Santa Barbara.”

It sounds like what Casey is describing is a miniseries, and that would be quite on-brand for the insitution, with the story of the Royal Family — 1200 years and counting — being a saga.

Casey describes what we’ve been seeing as royal watchers: “He had a very specific world view when he lived within, and now that he lives in another country and has an American life and lives in the American Riviera, his world is different.”

She also shares her thoughts on what to look forward to: “That’s why it would be fun to check in with him in a couple of years, because his insights would be far different.”
