Prince Archie of Sussex is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s eldest child – and only son.
The now-four-year-old was born at 05.26am on May 6, 2019 in London.
Despite being born in the UK, Archie now lives in the US with his parents and younger sister, two-year-old Princess Lilibet.
The matter of royal godparents arose again more recently when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided not to make public the names of Archie’s godparents following his christening in July 2019.
The couple caused something of a controversy by pulling away from the royal tradition of announcing a young royal’s godparents.
It was later revealed that Harry’s childhood friend Charlie van Straubenzee, his former nanny Tiggy Pettifer, and Mark Dyer, the former equerry to King Charles, had been chosen.
According to The Times, Tiggy Pettifer played a huge role in both Harry and Prince William’s lives.
She looked after both of them between 1993 and 1999, and even played an important part in their lives following the death of their late mother in 1997.
Both William and Harry are also godparents to her own sons.
Mark Dyer is known for being a mentor-style figure in both Harry and William’s lives.
He also helped Harry found his charity Sentebale in 2006.
Charlie van Straubenzee is one of Harry’s childhood friends.
Meeting at Ludgrove Prep School, the pair have been friends for many years, with him even being known very well in the royal household.
Royal children are known to have at least six godparents, so Archie may have more than three.
It is also noted that Archie doesn’t appear to have any royal-related godparents, such as his aunt and uncle – the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Like us, although unknown whether there are more, they would likely be either from the family or immediate friends from just outside the family.
