Posh seaside town embroiled in parking war after nasty note left on car

A posh seaside town has become embroiled in a parking war after a nasty note left on an “expensive looking” car has left locals aghast.

The note was snapped and shared on Facebook by a poster who called it “embarrassing” for Southwold, a pretty coastal town on in Suffolk.

The note posted on the Southwold And Reydon Spaces, Places and Chat group reads: “Your parking is disgraceful.

“People live here. You dont.”

The note is partially obscured by a windscreen wiper but continues saying: “…you make us resident’s walk miles when you park like you have, is that fair to us locals?

“No! So go park elsewhere if you want to park your car like this.

“from a Local Resident. Just cause you have a Jag dont give you the right.”

The resident who posted the picture said that the car was parked legally – and there was no issue with its position on the road.

They said: “Saw this note on a perfectly legally parked car by the church this morning.

“Only on the one expensive looking car. What makes people think they have a right to put notes like this?

“On street parking is there for all road users. This is embarrassing for Southwold.”

Many fellow Facebook users agreed with the person who shared the rude note – but others asked to see how the car was actually parked.

One said: “Maybe they were blocking someone in or parked in two spaces, without seeing how the car is parked it’s difficult to judge, but this person is obviously seriously peed off.”

Others said that the note could put off visitors and tourists to the “thriving seaside town”.

They said: “Without visitors and tourists Southwold just wouldn’t exist as a thriving seaside town.

“There isn’t enough permanent residents to support the businesses.

“If the car was parked legally I don’t see the issue tbh!”

Another agreed, adding: “Disgraceful is right, but not the parking which I believe was legal.

“Such vitriol and they clearly took the time to write a lengthy note.

“Very clear to see who the decent people are on this post by the tone of their responses and who are clearly unwelcoming, insular and clueless as to what brings money and jobs to this town.”

In the UK parking outside someone’s home is legal if the road is not private or obstructing a driveway.

The RAC said: “It is perfectly legal to park outside someone’s house, unless the vehicle is blocking a driveway or a wheel is over a dropped kerb.

“Where no parking controls exist, drivers do not have an ‘automatic spot’ for parking outside their homes.”
